The call for proposals follows below.
The Association of Architecture School Librarians (AASL) Conference Planning Task Force is excited to release this call for proposals for the 46th Annual AASL Conference, held in conjunction with the 112th Annual Meeting of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), which will take place March 14 - 16, 2024, in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
We invite individuals from across our community to share insights and experiences. Whether you offer decades of knowledge or are just beginning your career, we want to hear from you!
This year AASL borrows its theme from ACSA:
DISRUPTERS ON THE EDGE
As we reach the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, we find ourselves well past the point of debating climate crisis, social inequity, resource scarcity, decolonization, and fair access to housing and health care. Architects and designers must rise to the task of addressing these urgencies. With the world’s population over 8 billion and heading towards 10 billion in the next few decades, it is imperative that we challenge the status quo to find effective solutions. As we look ahead to the next 25 years, we must ask ourselves:
- How have disruptors inspired us to address these urgencies with renewed purpose?
- What can outliers and the traditionally marginalized teach us about breaking away from customary approaches?
- How can we (re)organize our efforts and ourselves to implement more effective action in the next quarter century?
The AASL Conference Program Committee asks for proposals that reflect on this theme through these topics:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Collections and Collection Development
- Community and Engagement
- Digital Scholarship
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility
- Health and Wellbeing
- Leadership, Management and Mentorship
- Space Planning for Libraries and Archives
- Teaching and Learning
- Vancouver Art, Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Planning
TYPES OF SUBMISSIONS
Lightning Talk / Digital Poster
5 minute presentation limited to a maximum of 15 images/slides at 20 seconds each.
Conference Presentation
15 minute presentation, with 5 additional minutes for audience questions.
Discussion Panel
45 minute discussion/debate between a group of four or fewer presenters on a single issue/topic, with 15 additional minutes reserved specifically for audience participation.
Group Workshop
1 hour participatory session where the audience gets to explore a new tool or process.
